MeasureLab Operation Manual

Welcome

This documentation summarizes the operation methods for observing and checking the performance of audio signals and equipment with your own eyes using MeasureLab.

"I don't have specialized equipment (like an oscilloscope or spectrum analyzer)..." Don't worry! The purpose of this tool is to transform your everyday PC and audio interface into a "high-end measurement instrument."

Tip

MeasureLab is a "virtual laboratory" created inside your PC. Pull the necessary instruments (widgets) out of the drawer, arrange them on your desk, and build your very own lab!

☕ Coffee Break: What does it mean to "see" sound?

The true identity of "sound" is invisible vibrations in the air. We hear it with our ears and feel it as "high," "low," "loud," or "beautiful," but we can't accurately tell what actual shape it has or what components (frequencies) are mixed in just by relying on human hearing.

MeasureLab is a tool that catches this invisible "sound," turns it into easy-to-understand graphs, and projects it onto your screen. To use an analogy, it's like an "electrocardiogram" a doctor uses to check a heartbeat, or an "astronomical telescope" for observing distant stars. Your PC turns into a magic mirror that reflects the true, invisible form of sound! Wouldn't you like to take a peek at what sound really looks like?

How to Read This Manual

Preparation

Please check the following preparations to start measurements smoothly.

Software Installation

Software must be ready to launch. If you haven't done so or want to know OS-specific notes, see Quick Start: Launching.

Audio Interface (I/O)

While built-in audio functions of the PC can be used, we recommend an external audio interface for serious measurements.

Connection Cables (for Loopback)

We recommend performing an operation check with a "loopback connection," where you output sound from the device and record it back yourself.

  • Connect a 3.5mm or 6.3mm standard plug cable from the output (OUT) to the input (IN).
